The products
In contrast with inferior products, the finishing of Laulhère berets is meticulous. The process starts with pile raising and shearing to produce a velvety, waterproof cloth, which is both dense and smooth and that neither shrinks nor pills.
Therefore there is no point in shaving our berets before wearing them – in fact we advise against doing so.
The regiment’s insignia affixed to the edge makes the difference between military and civilian berets. The headband is often worn turned outside, and each army corps has its own rules about how its berets should be prepared and folded. Military berets are normally worn with the fold pulled to the right except in the French army (except for the special operation forces) and in some former French colonies, and Switzerland where it slopes to the left.
